1. Teenage Phenomenon (2.5 MB mp3)
We are inside a professional athlete's head. In the early morning sun, he walks onto the field and begins to warm
up. It is normal to feel pressure, but things are different today. He is beginning to understand what he's gotten himself involved in, and knows deep inside that even though he's just begun to play as a pro, this game will be his last. A minimalistic tribute to one of my favorite
movies.
2. Surface
Tension (3.15 MB mp3)
The title
popped out at me because the song has a sort of empty quality that I
associate with tension. To me this piece is analogous to the tense,
quality-driven lifestyle that many people confuse with life itself.
Sure, the essence of purity is there, but what is the point when you
can't even stop to enjoy it? Hey, at least listen to your heartbeat
(at 1:35 in this track) as you stop to take a breath. Apologies for the quality; this track is encoded at 96k for now.
3. Another
Yesterday (5.0 MB mp3)
You
know how sometimes today seems like yesterday all over again? You
want to go forward but you can't help but think that you won't get
far. That's the idea behind this song. It's a progressive, yet contemplative
piece.
4. Repetition
and Time (3.3 MB mp3)
This song
is about the relationship between repetition (of any action) and time.
As things repeat themselves over a long period of time, they cease being
repetitious and begin to bring about serious change. It's interesting
to me that repetition can become a dynamic force. Enjoy this short tune.
Random Old Scraps
Rummage through it all here, finished and unfinished.
Note this is all under the same CC license as the rest of my work, but I'm not going to list it on the page here. All of these clips are from 2003 and earlier. For part of that time I worked as a musician for now-defunct Indy Interactive in Orem, Utah. I did music for a bunch of their clients like Franklin Covey, Logilent, Salt City Candle, etc. I also helped them build a sound sample library, where music clips I made along with other multimedia content were to be sold on the web, but the project never really went anywhere before they had to close their doors. If you recognize a certain news tune in there, that's just me playing around with synths and stuff for fun. :)

FS Music News
May 12, 2006: Happy birthday, self. And self's wife. :) Being born on the same day as your spouse is great. I'm so happy today, I thought I would upload some of my older stuff I found on my hard disk. Some of these were rescued from old melted CDs, so they are a bit scratchy like I ripped them off a vinyl record or something. :) My first experiences in writing music were in ModEdit, an old DOS program (which I paid for, thanks Norman!), followed by FastTracker 2, an amazing piece of software released in 1995. It was such a slick little app, allowing you to play games, work in *way* more than 4 channels, draw waveforms with your mouse cursor, rip audio from CDs, etc. Very groundbreaking for its time. Again, sorry about the quality, but I hope you can feel some of the excitement as I discovered what you could do with sampled audio.
