Sailboat

Taking a break from the beetle, here's something else:

Not complete, but good enough for now.

Re: Sailboat

By now, the top side is the best. Nice to see something else from you.

Re: Sailboat

Trying the boats on water:

http://www.friendlyskies.net/aoiforum/uploads/thumbs/557_sailboats.jpg

The water is a subdivided polymesh (32 by 64 squares) where the points are randomized 0.1 in the y direction. I think this gives better results than just using bump. The persons are just single polygons with images on them.

Re: Sailboat

It looks like a computer painting mixed with photo elements (and it is somehow).
While I like the background I don´t like the water to much - to rough for my taste.
The composition looks quite good regarding golden ratio - but if it should look like a snapshot I would try to avoid that (how about seeing the back of one boot on the right?).

On the other side: I´ve never made such a picture - hope my critics are welcome anyway.

Harald

Re: Sailboat

Turning good! Nice action.

The persons are just single polygons with images on them.

And what about the shadow of the main character? That man is a png photograph or a mesh of you?

Re: Sailboat

Thanks, both.

Harald: your comments are always welcome; I'm not all too happy with the water either. But the image as a whole is just a test, and will be a small part in another picture, and the viewpoint will be a little different. The mix of photo and computer-generated imagery is more or less intentional, and I try to take what the medium offers, rather than fight towards photorealism.

Mayid: yes, the figure on the left is also just a photo. Since the light-source is behind the camera, the shadow gets quite perfect.

Re: Sailboat

Looks good all together smile

I have sometimes wondered if it would be possible to animate waves somehow based on randomization ... scratchchin

Re: Sailboat

I like all the people in the boats!  Nice effect.  I enjoy inserting computer-generated objects into pictures or video scenes, but I like your technique of inserting real-life objects into your AOI scene.  Nice job on the light placement... the shadow makes it look like the person is 3 dimensional.

Re: Sailboat

..really nice scene, Helge
I like the composition. smile

..and I like the water, too. It looks rough, but doesn't it look like this from time to time?

Kind regards
Siri

Re: Sailboat

Thank you for your kind support.

Changed the sea and sky a bit, added fog and some seagulls. A little better perhaps?
