hologram objects

I'm implementing holograms to replace trees and hairy objects.

I learned to use it by intuition. But i'm not getting the entire image for the houses i pictured.

The way i use holograms i:

- making a hologram cylinder.
- define a new texture, based on a png image (an image mapped texture, with alpha channel)

This is what i got:

btw: It's pretty much faster than using real 3d objects!

Re: hologram objects

Mh... they render ok in a new file...

http://aoi-castellano.com.ar/img_al_foro/africa/holograma2.jpg

But in the first picture they don't seem to be intercepted by nothing... Notice that the houses goes through the hills... but they should allow seeing the highest part, don't they?.

edited: i just tested the scene avoiding the houses to touch the ground, and they renders entirely. But i need them to touch the ground because they have a transparent space below'em.

Re: hologram objects

Hello Mayid,
...using the hologram plugin is a good idea.

Maybe it helps to add ground and some hassocks to prepare the texture for the hologram like this:

I like to use MyPaint for texture painting. It is Open Source and has a lot of nice brushes for painting grass, plants and trees. http://mypaint.intilinux.com/ Maybe you will like it, too.

Kind regards

Siri

...but what is going on there? icon_eek Will they eat the dragon instead of the goat? I can't believe that. Hope it ends up like this: http://www.youtube.com/user/DreamworksO … 03Eop4FPPo wink

Re: hologram objects

Hey! I'm downloading MyPaint. I was getting amused to paint.NET, but it fails saving the png files in the appropriated way, so i cannot use the alpha channel with aoi (if i save the file with paint.NET). So i needed a light editor.

I don't know about the ground... It'll maybe looks sloppy... but i'll try.

Ps: Jajaja! Very nice movie! We should start to think in building some trailers to, don't you think?

Re: hologram objects

I draw the grass, and i think it's a good idea for cartoon style wink

Anyway, the holograms are still not handy. There's a space under the picture, and they got cut easily.

Re: hologram objects

I have also had issues with hologram objects, especially when there are a lot of them in the scene. I have mostly stopped using them as a result. sad They have a huge amount of power however, and are great for some things such as smoke.

check out the new renderfarm software at http://gc-films.com/renderfarm/! Version 0.3 now out.
