I was working on a character, and having certain kind of error. So i decided to close AOI and restart again. But suddenly i can't open files with PM meshes anymore. This alert shows with a red alert:

And the red alert is:

Here's the file i was working on.

I already tried to download PM from repository, but first i should manually erase the copy a have. The SP manager is not able to erase any plugin because it always says it's in being used.
The error i was having with my scene was related to the position of the objects. That's not a new issue for me, but this time was getting me annoying. When trying to change the texture, or the mesh, or the skeleton track, the character just moved out of the place it was, so i had to place it again in it's place...
Don't know why. But something like that used to happened me on the dragon scene i modeled last month. Sometimes when opening a file, things where out of the place i'd assigned them... Maybe because of the skeleton track... i don't really know.

Solved by moving the PM plugin to another folder and reinstalling it from SP.
Edited: no, no, it's not solved. It worked for an scene but not for the one i posted here. This is weird because i don't thinks i altered the character in any sense so to make it stop loading...
AS you can see, the little guy is gone:
But at least i recovered the others PM meshes.

Today a complete erased my 2.7.2 and 2.8.1 aoi versions, and then reinstalled 2.8.1. But the problem persists.
It's weird, because i think the mesh is quite good, so i can comprehend why i cannot load it. Even more: the original file with the african guy cannot be opened neither. So, it's not a problem with a single file, but with the one that contains the same character also.

Sounds like the mesh is weired somehow.
Maybe - if you post the scene (you did at SF already?) Peter, or in this case Francois can take a look at it and maybe help to solve the problem.

Yes, i posted the scene both in here and in SF. But i repeat: the same character is present in different files, and it was working good, till suddenly i just cannot open any of the files whit the character.
Can someone please check if any of this files can be opened without problems?

Hi Mayid,
.... I got an error message for both files and the polymesh is >unreadable<. To bad!
I wish I had better news.
Kind regards

Well... they are good news in a sense. Now i know that the problem are the files. Maybe the ones i was editing before the mess. But the core and the plugins are certainly not the problem, so ¡'ll just remake the character.
btw: this was the only picture i could take for the scene. Some things were really wrong with the edition: i added a second white cube to the scene but it never showed itself white on renders... and as i says before, the character used to move out of it's place when trying to change the texture, or some other value... Pretty weird.

The problem is definitely in the character. For all I tried, I can't do much as the object is corrupted apparently at texture level : did you set a layered texture ? But error in texturing can result from a corruption earlier in the file. Sorry.
Offline
Yes, i set a layered texture for separating the body and the hair.
I'll model the character again, no problem. But the corruptions may happens again due to problems the red alerts shows. So i'd like to find out what is causing so much errors in my aoi installations.

Keep an untextured copy of the character in the scene and hide it. Save often, change files for important achievements, like:
file-1.aoi
.
.
.
file-15.aoi
Layered textures can be tricky and a bug can easily slip in. Although I used them once in the lizard uv mapping example without trouble, does anyone had trouble with these ?

I use them "often".

Hello Francois,
Yes, I had some trouble with a layered texture a few days ago. I've used two uniform textures for this - a white and a transparent one. I chose face/vertex for mapping. Everything was quite normal at first, but when I've tried to save, everything froze and AoI crashed. Weird, because I use layered textures very often and normaly they work fine.
Kind regards
Siri
There is only a render left, no file or logfile....sorry![]()

@Francois
Your probably right about layered textures. I made one. And as soon as i define the faces for black and white in the editor, i started to have problem. See. Trying to editing the second eye it moved out of it place.
Sorry, the picture is not good. But if you read my first comment, i mention strange movement in objects on scene.
Now i have at least 5 files with my model in different stage so i hope i won't lose it. It's a fanny character. Still raw, but it will get funniest.
But how should i paint the lips, by example, withoud layered texture? Making meshes for each part of the character i need to paint? :\

Hi Mayid,
...you can use an image for texturing. Have a look at this article http://www.friendlyskies.net/aoiportal/ … view/22/1/ It is possible to "cut" the mesh into pieces - not really, of course
- and map an image onto the surface.
Doesn't the eye jump back to its place if you close the editor?
Kind regards
Siri

Things get's out of their place after closing the editor, after modifying a keyframe, or altering a texture. At least those things happens with my las scene. For this one i just get scared because i don't won't to loose my model again.
So i closed AOI.
I knew about UV unwrapping, but i never used it because my models are pretty rounded. But maybe i should start to cut them in part anyway.
Thanks Siri!
